Roll up crochet hook case is a nice luxury for everyone who has far too many hooks for their own good. I needed to attempt to make my own case and for a first attempt and being a newbie sewer, I surprised even myself. I added pockets, a faux bow, and more...

The other day my husband and I were at the mall for a movie and before the movie we stopped in this crazy store here in Japan called Village Vanguard. The store is rather similar to Spencer's back in the states with all the random fictional characters all over the walls and cluttered display racks. After navigating through the tightly spaced aisles we stumbled upon the nano puzzles... Like most pet owners you want your pet to be comfortable and what happens when your pup's dog beds are just plain worn out? You would typically throw them away right? Well don't do that if you happen to know a little bit about sewing and have some extra material lying around. Use all that lovely batting to make a new bed. Also this gives a great way to customize their bed to match your style. So lets get started and find a new purpose for those old dog beds or pillows. I love branch decor and birds, which prompted me to buy a really cute set of owl measuring spoons. At the time of purchase I knew I wanted to hang them on some sort of wall decor. I had a hard time deciding on making a tree outline out of wood or a wire branch. Well after considering time and tools I decided the branch would be my best choice. Looking for a cute little addition to a doorway's decor? Well why not try to make this easy door knocker or as I like to call it a doorbell knocker since it's positioned right over my buzzer. I will admit I rang my own doorbell a few times to try him out and then just for fun. It was a good addition to my Halloween decor, the kids really seemed to like tapping on the knocker before entering our spooky hallway. We eventually started getting mentioned to other kids so after the first hour we were asked if we were the haunted house that everyone kept talking about for the towers. One tough thing about apartment living is the smaller kitchens and the limited counter space. I am a person who goes nuts when the counters are too cluttered. I feel like my small space just became microscopic when I have things on the counter. So with the help of my local Daiso (dollar store) and 3M with their incredible removable hooks I created a clutter free cooking area on a tiled surface. Now if I had a dry walled surface I would have used the hooks that go with the grids but you work with what you have right? Customizing the plain old tee, a simple and quick way to do this is with bleach. I decided to test this out with a nice inexpensive pack of Fruit of the Loom t-shirts. Now there are a couple of ways to do bleached designs, you can use a bleach pen, toilet bowl cleaner, and plain bleach (each product I tried was Clorox brand, but any brand should be fine). I love my life, being stationed in a different country is challenging at times but well worth it! So to get started on reinventing some of my living spaces I decided to hit up the kitchen first (considering its one of my favorite spaces). First had to come up with a color scheme since my kitchen already has a flare for grey and white I figured lets roll with that and add a touch of natural bamboo, and black. So my first project is "Our Menu" board: My inspiration came from a nifty blog called "Two In Diapers." I felt like we were eating the same old same old every two weeks and my husband never wanted to help contribute ideas on what to cook. Making this little board a genius idea, since we pull out about five meal cards, one eat out and one left over card each week. It's nice to see my husband getting excited to help plan our meals. |
