For many people who love Studio Ghibli, My Neighbor Totoro seems to be the favorite. I received a request from a friend after I had made a Totoro teapot cozy for myself asking if I could make her one. As it turns out I tend to have a hard time turning people down and well it's Totoro so why not. There was only one problem I have been so busy with other projects that I never seemed to have the time nor the inspiration to make the cozy. Keep in mind she brought over her tea pot sometime last year so I have been holding onto it for a while.

The other day my husband and I were at the mall for a movie and before the movie we stopped in this crazy store here in Japan called Village Vanguard. The store is rather similar to Spencer's back in the states with all the random fictional characters all over the walls and cluttered display racks. After navigating through the tightly spaced aisles we stumbled upon the nano puzzles... Like most pet owners you want your pet to be comfortable and what happens when your pup's dog beds are just plain worn out? You would typically throw them away right? Well don't do that if you happen to know a little bit about sewing and have some extra material lying around. Use all that lovely batting to make a new bed. Also this gives a great way to customize their bed to match your style. So lets get started and find a new purpose for those old dog beds or pillows. I know it's been a while since the last post I keep getting sucked into my long term hobbies...Cross Stitch. Every time I pick a kit up I get almost finished and then stop. A horrible habit but to be honest I hate outlining the finished project, for whatever reason I take almost as long to cross stitch it as I do to outline the details. So finally after so much time spent in a box the pair are finished and gazing at one another from a far. Just made my own sponges, these are great for many reasons. But my favorite reasons are they match my color scheme, and they are machine washable. On the soft side I have a textured crochet stitch to help get more gunk and grim off each dish. For the tougher jobs there is the rippled scrubby side made out of tulle (only for use on none scoring surfaces). I love branch decor and birds, which prompted me to buy a really cute set of owl measuring spoons. At the time of purchase I knew I wanted to hang them on some sort of wall decor. I had a hard time deciding on making a tree outline out of wood or a wire branch. Well after considering time and tools I decided the branch would be my best choice. Is love in the air? Not sure but at least it looks a little more like it in our house. Since I have a thing for holidays I decided to work on some placemats. I honestly don't know why I suddenly want all these placemats, maybe it's the festive charm it adds, who knows? Now back to the details of this pattern, the finished size should be about 18" wide x 13" height. I did use two different patterns and piece them together to create these heartful placemats, hope you like them! |
