So who thinks a viking/dwarf beard would make a great face mask/scarf for snowboarding? Well if you didn't guess, my husband did. Eric the Grey made a one time appearance down a lovely snow covered mountain in Northern Japan. This project seemed like a good idea at first but about halfway into it, it became apparent that it would end up being a pain. I say this because cutting so many strands of yarn was really tedious. My husband did help for a while but his strands were varied lengths and even he felt it was too much. But as you can see the beard did get finished. However wearing it down a snow covered mountain riding on a snowboard may not have been the best idea. The beard did it's job to keep my husbands face and neck nice and warm but combined the wind and speed of going down the mountain caused the beard's strands to fly up everywhere. If you look closely you can see all the snow stuck in the beard. So back to the drawing board for a better cover. I have seen some beards crocheted more fully with added braids that can be stitched in place. Or maybe we will try a knight helmet instead....To make your own beard stop by ravelry for the free pattern. Also I added more rows to the base so it would cover more of his face which lead into more beard strands.

This looks great on your husband! You should try Beard Head's beard beanies. The length of the beard is long enough to keep your face warm without the stands flailing around as you snowboard. My brother loves his! You can check them out here: https://beardhead.com/
