Crochet cable slouchy with a pom pom, this hat has a couple first for me. To get started check out the inspiration at this awesome blog "String With Style" there are some really cute patterns on there. There is also a free pattern for cable leg warmers which I am going to make as well so watch for that finished project post hopefully in the next month or so before we run out of snow here.
Speaking of snow we finally got a decent storm that brought in almost 28" another reason for wanting a new hat and leg warmers. :)

Just a close up of my handy work, not quite my best but for a first with cable styled patterns it turned out pretty well. It looks really cute especially in this color scheme even though it is not my usual color pallet. The yarn used is Red Heart's Soft line, medium worsted 4 weight, 256 yards per skein, 5 oz. The colors that I used are Off White for the band, and Seafoam for the cable section of the pattern. I do have a small ball left of the Seafoam maybe a 1 1/2" left, so this pattern should only require a single skein of yarn depending on whether you want a pom on top of not.
I still have a few loose ends to secure one of which managed to photo bomb this photo but that's okay. I did have some debate over the band, I did eight rows instead of four to make the off white stand out more and to give the hat a little more length to it. Which I am really glad I made that decision, I am even thinking of doubling it so there would be sixteen rows that I can roll up a bit, maybe next time...So the final dimensions of my hat ended up being 10" wide and 9 1/2" long not counting the pom. I did added an extra row of decreasing stitches (Row 2 of the assembly portion of the pattern with the sc2tog stitches) so I had less to sew together.
Here is the close up of my pom pom, definitely not my best work but for a first attempt I think I did rather well. I think next time I will wrap more yarn on my hand. Also in the video the gal does a three finger wrap I went with four instead just in case I messed up and I wanted a bigger pom.
