Just made my own sponges, these are great for many reasons. But my favorite reasons are they match my color scheme, and they are machine washable. On the soft side I have a textured crochet stitch to help get more gunk and grim off each dish. For the tougher jobs there is the rippled scrubby side made out of tulle (only for use on none scoring surfaces).
The pattern for this sponge is located on my Craftsy Store and at the bottom of this post. That's not even the best part, wait for it...it's a free pattern so download it today! Also there are two different sponges included in the pattern.
Hope you enjoy this easy and useful crochet project! After months of use I have found that I prefer the thicker sponge without the border it's easier to clean with and just seems to suds up better.
Note: while an acrylic blend yarn works fine I would recommend using a higher count cotton blend for better durability.
Care & Cleaning:
This sponge is easy to clean, I throw mine in the was with the dirty laundry every week and let it air dry once it has gone through the complete wash cycle. It should be just about dry, that is if you have a good spin cycle. I have tried running it through a dishwasher cycle but it doesn't get the stains out as well and the sponge is usually soaking wet at the end of the cycle. Either way it's a preference thing and both methods clean the sponge without damaging the yarn and tulle.
